Uralchem and Uralkali have decided to withdraw from the Russian Association of Fertilizer Producers (RAPU). This was announced by Chairman of the Board of Directors of Uralchem Dmitry Konyaev.

"This difficult decision is due to the fact that in the current situation it is difficult to develop a common coordinated position, unified across the industry, while we want to be responsible to the government for our position," TASS quoted him as saying.

Koniaev stressed that the companies see provision of Russian farmers with mineral fertilizers as one of the main goals of their activities, so they intend to adhere to the previous agreements on the provision of the market with mineral fertilizers.

In the near future the companies are going to send official notices to the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Agriculture to withdraw from the association.

However, the companies assured that they intend to maintain close coordination and cooperation with the Russian government.

RAPU now includes 14 companies that supply over 90% of the Russian domestic mineral fertilizer market.
