Russia may introduce a floating duty on fertilizers

The Russian government is considering introducing floating duties on fertilizers to stabilize prices. They will depend on global prices, similar to those for grain and sunflower oil, Deputy Prime Minister Viktoriya Abramchenko told reporters.

The cost of mineral fertilisers is not very affordable for agricultural producers, authorities say.

According to the media, during the last year the prices for most fertilizers have been increasing rapidly both in the global and in the domestic market. For instance, at the St. Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange on June 22 ammophos (a kind of phosphate fertilizer) was traded at the price of 55-59 thousand rubles per ton, while a year ago it was almost half as much.
