Singapore says it is interested in diversifying imports at the expense of products from Russia

Singapore is interested in diversifying food imports and exports, including through food supplies from Russia, said the country's second trade and industry minister Tan Si Leng.

"The government is keen to diversify food supplies. We consider it possible to import meat products from Russia, including poultry, as well as tea," he said.

In addition, the ministry spokesman spoke about Singapore's signing of a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union. He said the country expects it to reduce the cost of doing business, TASS informs.

Also, according to Si Leng, there is an interest in Singapore for companies from Russia to supply their goods to other countries through the republic.

According to Sergey Levin, Russian Deputy Minister of Agriculture, despite the fact that trade turnover of agricultural products between the countries last year increased by 1.5 times, the figures still do not match the existing potential. Russia, according to his information, has joined the list of leading food exporters, while Singapore is the leading distribution hub in the region.

At the same time, Levin noted that the Russian Federation expects the problem of meat supply restrictions in Singapore to be resolved as soon as possible.
