Russia to increase passenger car exports by 60% in 2021

Russian automakers exported more than 35,000 cars in the five months of 2021, increasing deliveries by 60% compared to the same period in 2020, the Russian Export Center (REC) said.

"In just five months of this year, Russia delivered more than 35,000 machines worth $575 million to foreign markets, a 60 percent increase compared to that period in 2020. It was possible to increase deliveries due to the recovery of global markets after the lockdown," said Veronika Nikishina, CEO of REC, at the launch ceremony of new projects of Stellantis Concern at PSMA Rus plant in Kaluga.

The concern has presented new models of vehicles that were started to be produced in the Kaluga Oblast both for the domestic market and for export to the European countries. These are vans and multipurpose commercial vans, mini vans and compact vans.

Furthermore, the concern has announced a new project - a specialised export hub on the basis of PSMA Rus to organise vehicle and engine deliveries to Europe, Latin America, and North Africa. The first shipments will begin in the second half of 2021, the REC specified.

Stellantis Eurasia Region Director Xavier Duchmann noted that in the next few years the concern will expand its product range by localizing the production of Fiat Professional brand models.

"Already this year, with the build up and deployment of production capacities, we will create 1 thousand new jobs in the Kaluga region. We see huge potential for the Russian automotive market. Our goal is to reach the first place in Europe in terms of exports this year," he noted.
