Russian Business Support Centre opened in East Africa

A center for support of Russian business has opened in Uganda, said Stanislav Mezentsev, Executive Director of the Coordinating Committee for Economic Cooperation with Sub-Saharan Africa (AfroCom) on the sidelines of the Russia-Islamic World: KazanSummit 2021.

"We opened a trading house and a support center for Russian business in Uganda. We were not able to hold the inauguration ceremony due to the restrictions in place there", - Mezentsev told during the session "Russian-African partnership: the modern trajectory of economic cooperation".

According to him, such trading houses will also be opened in Kenya and Ethiopia by the end of the year.

"A business mission to Uganda will be organized in September as part of this work, and before the end of the year we plan to hold business missions to Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya," he added.

Earlier, AfroCom head Igor Morozov noted that the Russian Business Support Centre will open in Uganda's capital, Kampala, as part of an experiment. Its purpose will be to understand how to support the development and localization of Russian small and medium enterprises in the region.

"AfroCom" was created in 2009 on the initiative of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation in order to promote the interests of Russian business in Africa.

International economic summit of Russia and the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) "Russia - the Islamic World: KazanSummit - 2021" is held in Kazan from July 28 to July 30. The summit aims to strengthen trade, economic, scientific, technical, social and cultural ties between Russia and the OIC member states. The leitmotif of the Forum in 2021 is conscious consumption; the key topics of the business programme include partner finance, the halal industry, youth diplomacy, medicine, sport, creative industries, export development, entrepreneurship and investment. The venue of the event also hosts the Russia Halal Expo and the Mechanical Engineering Cluster Forum. In 2019, the summit was attended by 3.5 thousand delegates from 72 countries and 38 regions of Russia. This year, more than 2.5 thousand people from 60 countries are participating in the summit.
