The operation of the Samsung Pay payment system was at risk of being banned in Russia due to a court dispute,Kommersant writes.

According to the publication, the Arbitration Court in Moscow satisfied the claim of the Swiss company "Squin SA" to "Samsung Electronics Rus Company" and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. for the use of the invention under patent № 26866003 without the consent of the right holder, which is itself "Squin SA". According to the text of the court's decision, the court actually prohibits the operation of payment service Samsung Pay in Russia as well as importation of devices that support it into the country.

Samsung Electronics themselves have commented to the publication that they are not planning any changes in their activities and are studying the documents. At the same time, there is no information about Squin SA on the Internet.

The experts interviewed believe that Samsung will challenge the patent in Rospatent. If the Chamber of Patent Disputes takes Samsung's side, all claims against the company will be dropped automatically. If the court ruling comes into force, the company may simply stop pre-installation of the service. The publication's interlocutors point out that the situation is more like "embezzlement" when "people want money from a large corporation". Samsung has 30 days to appeal the decision.
