The Russian capital's trade turnover with the countries of the Middle East and North Africa in the first five months of this year increased by 40%, to $1.89 billion, compared to the same period in 2020, said Vladimir Yefimov, the deputy mayor of Moscow.

"In January-May this year, Moscow's trade turnover with the countries of the Middle East and North Africa reached $1.89 billion, which is 40.2% more than in the same period last year. These indicators have been achieved primarily by increasing exports of Moscow products", - the press service of the Department of Investment and Industrial Engineering quotes him.

The deputy mayor specified that non-resource non-energy export of the capital for five months exceeded $ 812 million, i.e. almost 70% of last year figure.

Algeria has become the main importer of capital non-primary non-energy goods during the period from January to May: Moscow has put there production on 506,5 million dollars. Egypt was on the second line ($87 million), and the third - Saudi Arabia ($78 million).

Algeria mainly imported manufactured goods, including mechanical equipment and machinery. Agro-industrial products were supplied to Egypt and Saudi Arabia. In addition, for the first time this year Moscow supplied components for radio and television equipment to the Yemeni market.

According to analysts from the Mosprom Center, non-resource non-energy exports to these regions will continue to grow.

"For example, cosmetic products, fiber optics and electrical insulators are the most promising areas for export development to Saudi Arabia, while pharmaceutical products, sound equipment, lighting equipment, toys and sports equipment are the most promising in Morocco. Moreover, non-alcoholic beverages may be in high demand in the United Arab Emirates," it was reported.
