The government has allocated ₽652 million to buy and deliver oxygen concentrators to the regions

Regions will receive almost 652 million rubles for the purchase of oxygen concentrators to treat patients with coronavirus infection. The respective order was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

"It is important to maintain a sufficient supply of oxygen. Regional authorities should plan the need in advance and particularly closely monitor the condition of the equipment," his words are quoted on the Cabinet's website.

Concentrators provide hospitals with oxygen to treat patients with respiratory failure. Funding will be allocated to 20 regions which are in need of such equipment. Among them are the Irkutsk, Kurgan and Kirov regions, the Altai Territory, North Ossetia and Dagestan.

Each region will receive an average of 32.5 million roubles. These funds, as the Cabinet of Ministers pointed out, will be enough to buy equipment, its delivery and commissioning.

The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade has asked the Russian metallurgical companies to reduce the consumption of technical oxygen in order to increase the supply of medical oxygen to hospitals in the beginning of July. The head of the ministry Denis Manturov said in the middle of the month that the four main Russian oxygen producers "are operating at full capacity". Russia has purchased batches of medical oxygen from Kazakhstan and Finland, and in early August, oxygen was imported to hospitals in the Irkutsk region from China amid shortages in the regions.
