In the Novosibirsk region 20 thousand hectares of land are reserved for the establishment of carbon farms. This was announced by the Governor of the region Andrey Travnikov.

He said that the authorities plan to put into circulation up to 100 thousand hectares of lands that are not used now.

Carbon landfill is the territory with ecosystem for development and testing of remote and ground control technologies for greenhouse gas emissions and other parameters important for climate change in the forest areas and agricultural land. As part of the project it is planned to develop methods for measuring fluxes of major greenhouse gases - carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and others.

As a reminder, in February 2021 the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation launched a pilot project on creation of carbon testing grounds in the regions for development and testing of the carbon balance control technologies.
