Russian film companies will be given around ₽500 million for dubbing

Eleven Russian film companies will receive 470 million rubles to translate films and promote them in other countries, the Russian Export Center (REC) said.

"The REC together with the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia concluded 11 agreements with film companies for a total amount of more than 469.7 million rubles. These funds can be used by film companies for the translation of films, as well as for marketing promotion abroad, "- said in the message.

This year 21 feature films and 24 animated films and series, and one IT-project will receive support. The planned volume of export earnings will exceed 2.3 billion rubles until 2023.

As it was recalled in the REC, last year film companies were provided with about 300 million rubles to promote content abroad. Support was given to 13 films and 25 animated films.

"We see a high interest of companies in the field of cinema and animation to participate in the program. The results of its implementation in 2020 confirm that such support allows participants to enter foreign markets as a major with a ready, country-specific product and promotional materials", - said Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Vladimir Ilyichev.

According to him, they are now working to update the strategy until 2030, which will be sent to the government by the end of the year. Together with the All-Russian Academy of Foreign Trade a study of world markets is being prepared to determine where the services of domestic companies will be most in demand.

As the general director of REC Veronika Nikishina added, the support measures should meet the demand of the time. She noted that the amendments to the existing programme will enable the companies to redistribute the allocated funding at their discretion. This is necessary when expanding the geography of sales and increasing the number of languages for dubbing, Nikishina explained.

"However, external markets need not only linguistic adaptation of content, but also mental adaptation. This requires additional editing of the ready-made content, it is expensive, but necessary for higher sales. Therefore, now we are studying the possibility of making appropriate changes in the decree, "- concluded the head of the REC.
