The Russian government has ordered the inclusion of sugar in the list of agricultural products for state interventions, the Russian government website has reported.

"Interventions are used as a tool to regulate prices and support agricultural producers. When prices are low, the state buys products from farmers in the intervention fund. If prices rise significantly, it sells them, thus stabilizing the situation on the market," the statement reads.

The Cabinet of Ministers reminded that the formation of the state intervention fund will start next year.

Earlier on the instructions of the president, the government took steps to reduce the cost of food. In particular, the duties for some agricultural products were adjusted and the instruments of support for flour mills and bakers were created. In addition, agreements were reached with industry associations, commodity producers, suppliers and retail chains to stabilise sugar and sunflower oil prices.
