Wildberries: banks refute claims by foreign systems that the retailer violated rules

The banking community has responded to letters to international payment systems warning of penalties after Wildberries introduced discounts on MIR, SberPay and SBP cards, the online retailer's press service said.

In their responses, the banks, according to the company, refuted claims by foreign payment systems that the online retailer violated their rules, as they were talking about discounts on domestic payment systems and not individual fees.

"Despite the pressure exerted, the banks insist that the legislation does not prohibit the introduction of discounts on Russian payment instruments," the press service said in a statement.

It is noted that the retailer is constantly interacting with the banks, advising them and providing them with legal support.

Wildberries denied the information about the decision to introduce a commission on payment by Visa and Mastercard

The company said that "we gave Russians the opportunity to choose the most convenient and profitable for them payment systems, thus allowing them to save on purchases". Also in Wildberries added that similar practice exists in other countries.

"If we talk about discrimination of users, which the MPS claimed, is it not discrimination that Russian shoppers are not available the same terms from Western payment systems as citizens of other countries, and also do we not see discrimination of Russian business, for which the tariffs of payment systems are significantly higher than in other markets?" - stated in Wildberries.

The company said it is necessary to change "the situation with monopolistically high tariffs for the Russian economy," specifying that in other countries the interchange rate is from 0.05% to 0.45%, while in Russia it is "significantly higher."
