The first stage of mandatory labelling of packaged water has been launched in Russia.

According to the national system of digital labeling and tracking of goods "Fair Mark", manufacturers, importers, wholesale and retail organizations engaged in circulation of packaged water must apply for registration in the labeling system from September 1, 2021, but not later than 7 days from the date of the need to implement the turnover of labeled packaged water.

According to Kirill Volkov, head of the Department of excise-free commodity groups of the CRPT, the initiative to implement labeling of packaged water belongs to the business.

"For more than a year, together with leading industry companies, we defined methods and processes of labeling, conducted a long experiment, which showed effectiveness on all form factors produced in Russia," TASS quoted him as saying.

He stressed that although the requirements are still three months away from coming into force, companies should choose an integrator now. "Upgrading an enterprise is not a quick task. As experience shows, advance preparation allows to go the way of marking implementation as comfortably as possible," Volkov explained.

As a reminder, the experiment on the introduction of mandatory labeling lasted 14 months and ended on June 1, 2021. More than 8,200 companies, of which 552 are manufacturers, have already joined the "Honest Mark". From December 1, 2021 labeling will become mandatory for mineral water, and from March 1, 2022 - for all packaged drinking water.
