AKROT: Food with expired shelf life should be given to charity

The Association of Retail Trade Companies (ACORT) has proposed to donate expired food products to charity.

"The Association of Retail Companies (ACORT) has repeatedly proposed to address the issue of donating expired food products to charity. These are absolutely safe products, they are fit for consumption and can become a significant help to those in need", - TASS quotes the press service.

At the same time the association noted that now the donation of products for charity is associated with serious costs due to the need to pay VAT. It is more expensive than disposing of the products in accordance with the law.

According to ACORT, the Russian government should introduce tax breaks for the companies that are willing to do charity.

Recall that the day before it became known that the national center of food rescue and care for the environment "Foodshedding" appealed to the Ministry of Finance with a proposal to relieve cake chains from payment of VAT, if they donate products with expiry date (from one to four days) for charity.
