Russia and Zimbabwe sign memorandum of cooperation in nuclear energy

The Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM and the Ministry of Energy of Zimbabwe have signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the peaceful use of atomic energy.

The document was signed during the 65th session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna by ROSATOM's Director General Alexei Likhachev and Zimbabwe's Energy Minister Soda Zhemu.

"The memorandum is the first document in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy between Russia and Zimbabwe. It creates a basis for establishing cooperation in a wide range of areas, in particular, it opens up opportunities for the implementation of projects in the field of non-power applications of atomic energy in industry, agriculture and medicine," - said the press service of the Russian state corporation.

The agreement will focus on training of national staff for the nuclear industry of Zimbabwe and work to raise public awareness of nuclear technology, Rosatom said.
