A gadget for communicating with deafblind people with speech impairments has been developed in Russia

Engineers of the National Research Technological University "MISIS" and Karfidov Lab design bureau(participant of "Made in Russia" project) have developed a device for communication with deafblind people with speech impairments.

According to the university's press service, the device, called VibroBraille, works on the principle of Braille. It is a small gadget with built-in tactile elements that send signals to the user's fingertips. The device has a built-in microphone to recognize the speech of the interlocutor.

Alexei Karfidov, head of the Department of Engineering of Technological Equipment at the National Research University "MISIS", explained to RT that during a conversation with a deaf-blind person, the gadget begins to vibrate. After that, the deaf-blind person presses a button to confirm readiness for a dialogue. Then the speaker's speech is converted into Braille language, which is a set of six dots or symbols. Thanks to the tactile buttons, the person understands exactly what is being said to him or her. A deaf-blind person can also respond to the speaker by pressing these buttons. His or her presses are converted into ordinary speech.

The new development differs from the analogues with its compactness and simplicity, and with additional functions. The VibroBraille device has passed tests and is ready to be put into mass production.
