Retail turnover in Russia increased by 9.3% in physical terms and by 17% in monetary terms

Retail turnover in Russia increased by more than 9% in physical terms in the first seven months of this year, said Ivan Fedyakov, general director of the INFOLine information and consulting agency.

"According to the results of the last seven months, retail turnover in our country is growing by 9.3% in physical terms, and 17% in money terms. But we need to understand that there are many "buts" here. If we break down the retail trade in food and non-food range, we see that after four quarters of decline in retail turnover, which we recorded in the food, in the second quarter of 2021 there is an increase, but it still does not cover the fall, which was a year earlier, "- he said during the exhibition WorldFood Moscow.

At the same time, Fedyakov also pointed to high inflation, which explains "such a phenomenal increase" in monetary terms.

"Since many companies count revenue precisely in money terms, then naturally most show positive results. <...> But we should not relax, because the growth in food retail is only 2%, i.e. the growth that I have described is mainly in the non-food segment," the INFOLine CEO specified, adding that this situation, in his opinion, is related to the condition of households.
