Pasta producers reported a shortage of durum wheat in Russia and rising prices for raw materials

Russian pasta producers have complained about a shortage of durum wheat and a sharp rise in the price of raw materials. This, according to market players, may provoke a strong rise in the price of final products.

During the round table discussion of the situation in the industry Valery Pokornyak, owner of Altan holding, said that the cost of durum wheat used to be 28 thousand rubles per ton for eight months, but during the last two weeks it has risen up to 32-38 thousand rubles, Interfax reports.

According to the General Director of "Extra M" Lorenzo Trashinelli, such steep rise in prices on the part of the pasta producers provokes panic. Some of them are currently using the old stocks, which will be enough for the production by the end of this year. After that they will have to buy the wheat of the new crop, the prices of which can be "very high," the expert specified.
