Media: Production of CoviVac vaccine has been suspended in Russia

The M.P. Chumakov Scientific Center for Research and Development of Immunobiological Preparations suspended production of the vaccine against coronavirus CoviVac due to modernization of the site where the raw material for the drug is produced.

As Kommersant learned, the new volumes of the vaccine have not been introduced into circulation since August 28, although the center used to manufacture 30 to 90 thousand doses per month, according to the register of Roszdravnadzor. According to the registry, no more than 1 million doses have been put into circulation since its registration in February and until mid August.

The publication's sources in the pharmaceutical market confirmed that the production of CoviVac was suspended due to the stoppage of the raw material production site. Thus, Sergei Shulyak, DSM Group CEO, explained that the M.P. Chumakov Centre is installing new equipment to scale up production of the substance, as the existing pilot facilities did not allow the centre to produce a large volume of raw materials.

Modernization and, as a consequence, a pause in vaccine production may take two months, the publication's sources forecast. So far the developer has no intention to share the technology of its production.
