The ruble in August for the second month in a row hit the top twenty most popular world currencies, according to RIA Novosti with reference to data from the interbank transfer system SWIFT.

The last time the national currency was kept in the top 20 more than six years ago. After several years in this ranking, the ruble was not in the top twenty most used currencies in the world in March 2015.

The share of the domestic currency in international settlements in the last month of summer was 0.18%. The last time the ruble managed to do so was in February 2015.
