Prices for goods in Russia want to be restrained by a new procurement scheme

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation plans to curb the cost of goods through a new procurement scheme for retail chains. The idea was voiced during a meeting with Deputy Minister Viktor Evtukhov, RBC writes.

According to the representatives of the authority, in order to curb prices retailers and suppliers should enter into direct contracts without tenders.

According to the newspaper, the deputy minister asked the network representatives about their reasons for the price growth. Suppliers said that in some cases suppliers do not allow to purchase products at lower wholesale prices. In addition, some of the retailers' contracts are not directly with suppliers, as not all suppliers agree to cooperate on these terms.

As the current trade legislation does not stipulate the format of the procurement procedure, the Deputy Minister instructed the Department for Development of Domestic Trade to explore the possibility of direct contracts between suppliers and retail chains, the media report.
