The Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed extending the tax free experiment until the end of 2022

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia proposed to extend the period of tax free experiment in the country until December 31, 2022 and to extend the geography of the project to five more regions, said the press service of the Ministry.

"To stimulate the purchasing activity of foreign tourists, we propose to expand the list of regions where the tax free is valid, including Amur, Vladimir, Irkutsk, Pskov regions and Kamchatka region," - said the head of the Ministry Denis Manturov.

He noted that the extension of tax free will have a positive impact on the growth of employment in retail trade and tourism industry, will increase entrepreneurial activity and production of goods demanded by foreign tourists.

Tax free is a VAT refund system that applies to purchases made by tourists from countries outside the Eurasian Union. According to the ministry, during the 2018-2020 years of the pilot project, the amount of purchases made by foreign tourists was about 38 billion rubles, and the amount of checks presented to tax free operators for VAT reimbursement exceeded 20 billion rubles.

Sale of goods with tax free service is possible in more than 1.1 thousand shops of 205 retail trade organizations, the number of buyers included citizens of more than 200 foreign countries. Citizens of the People's Republic of China (70%), Ukraine (2.6%), USA (1.9%), Israel (1.8%), Vietnam (1.7%), Azerbaijan (1.6%), Uzbekistan (1.3%), Qatar (1.3%), Germany (1%), UAE (1%), Thailand (1%) made the most purchases.
