Scientists from Russia and Germany have created a unique laser to be used in surgery
German and Russian physicists together created a laser that is capable of operating in the mid-infrared range and does not require additional cooling in contrast to its counterparts.
The development can be used during surgical procedures. Also it will find application in molecular spectroscopy and will allow more effective processing of plastic materials.
The results were published in Optics Letters and Optics Express.
Mid-infrared lasers are often used in environmental gas monitoring and respiratory analysis, in minimally invasive surgery and in the treatment of non-metallic materials.
