Russia has stepped up efforts to address climate issues

Russia may become one of the key global players in solving climate problems. The Made in Russia correspondent reports that this was discussed at a press conference in Moscow today.

General Director of 3M in Russia and the CIS Mats Friberg said that Russia should be at the forefront of all topics that affect the climate and the carbon agenda. "In recent years we in our company feel that there is a certain interest from the authorities, from the government, a strong interest from the citizens, the population. When we recruit young people, they often talk about it. They talk about what corporate responsibility is, what it means," Friberg said.

Russia has "tremendous potential" to become a major player in addressing environmental issues, he said.

In this regard, he drew attention to the gradual change in the culture of energy consumption, moving away from coal and oil and searching for new energy resources. "For example, hydrogen production in Russia, a component that is exported to Western Europe. Germany has big appetites for this, there is a desire to move away from fossil fuels. Of course, Russia has good opportunities in this niche, there are many other components and resources... The future looks terrific, you just need a little work," he believes.

For his part, Alexei Kalinin, professor of business practices and director of the Institute of Emerging Market Studies at the Skolkovo Moscow School of Management, noted that Russia is working on climate regulation. Solutions that can be exemplified in Europe and in the world have already been created. "Much of what is not only in the Russian subsoil, but also in their heads, can be part of global solutions," he concluded.

3M is an American chemical corporation operating in the fields of industry, worker safety, healthcare and consumer goods.
