Ministry of Agriculture plans to attract migrants from Uzbekistan to work in agriculture

The Russian Ministry of Agriculture plans to invite migrants from Uzbekistan to work. This is reported by Kommersant, citing sources in the ministry.

It is known that by the end of the week it is planned to collect applications from companies for which up to 3.5 thousand workers may be imported. The personnel will be imported within the quota of 10 thousand people for the construction industry.

Companies who want to hire migrants will have to sign an agreement with the Agency for External Labor Migration (AVTM) of Uzbekistan. The applicants will be screened for HIV and tuberculosis, vaccinated against COVID-19 with Sputnik Lite, and have to pass a Russian language exam. All this will be financed by the employer. Companies must also pay for the flight and the cost of the patent.

The total cost of hiring one worker is estimated at 45-50 thousand rubles.

It is worth noting that some Russian experts are sceptical about the initiative. According to some assessments, the development of internal labour migration will be more beneficial for the country's economy than recruitment of foreign workforce.
