Deliveries of black caviar from Russia, according to customs statistics, in January-November 2015 increased by three times compared to the same period of 2014, and reached 4.71 tonnes. While in the entire year before last only 1.65 tonnes were shipped abroad.

The increase in production and sales of caviar on domestic and foreign markets contributed to the growth of production of sturgeon fish species in fish factories in Russia, according to RIA Novosti, in contact with the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia.

One of the reasons for this result is the currency change: the ruble losing considerable value led to the fact that supplying fish to overseas manufacturers is much more profitable, adds the Ministry of Agriculture.

The annual production of black caviar in Russia is about 50 tonnes. In Russia there is a moratorium on the production of sturgeon, whose fishing is allowed only for research purposes and for reproduction. However, experts put the market of poached caviar at 20 tonnes per year, which is comparable to that of the legal sector.
