39

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation announced plans to limit the import of wine materials into Russia. It believes that such a measure might stimulate the development of domestic production and provide an impetus to organizing Russian exports of wine, writes the Rossiyskaya Gazeta, citing a statement by the head of the department, Alexander Tkachev.

The Minister said that the authorities intend to increase state support of winemakers by raising interest rates on subsidies on the tab and vineyards care. By 2020, 50 thousand acres of new vineyards will be planted, i.e, by 10 thousand per year as opposed to the current 3 thousand. Crimean winemakers will receive special support, stated the agency.

Experts, in turn, noted that the country will not be able to develop in that short a time, the wine production in quantities sufficient to support export sales. Also, others note that the price of Russian bottles of average quality wine today reached 700 rubles, which is a high bar for the European market, where you can buy high-quality wine at lower prices.
