Ministry of Health registers drug to treat COVID-19 - "WORLD 19"

The Russian Ministry of Health has registered a drug for the treatment of coronavirus MIR 19 developed by the Federal Medical and Biological Agency.

"Today we received a registration certificate for the highly specific antiviral drug MIR 19, whose peculiarity is that it works at the gene (post-transcriptional) level, namely, it selectively suppresses the activity of vital RNA sequences of the virus, while not affecting the human genome. Deciphering the SARS-COV-2 virus genome made it possible to establish optimal targets within it. The optimal bio-target is the most conserved RNA sequence of the virus, encoding an enzyme, RNA polymerase of the virus. Without this enzyme, the virus loses the ability to reproduce inside the body," said Veronika Skvortsova, head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia.

It is noted that the medicine has no effect on the human body, the target of which is the virus, and therefore no adverse reactions have been observed in patients.

Recall that the patent for the drug was obtained in April 2021. Its name stands for "small interfering RNA". The drug is intended to prevent and treat COVID-19 and is a nasal spray or inhalation liquid.

The drug suppresses the activity of any strain of COVID, including Omicron, while not affecting the human genome.
