"Abrau-Durso" will buy a winery in Azerbaijan

A subsidiary of the Abrau-Durso group of companies - AzAbrau LLC - won the privatization tender for the purchase of the wine plant ASK Sheki Sharab in the Sheki region of Azerbaijan with an annual capacity of 2.6 million bottles, the Russian company said.

Abrau-Durso Group of Companies will invest 2.33 million euro in development of the plant.

The winery is located in the Alazan Valley, which stretches along the southern foothills of the Caucasus Range in the territory of Georgia and Azerbaijan. The enterprise was launched in 2008 and modern European equipment was installed there, according to the data of "Abrau-Durso".

The Russian producer plans to establish the production of elite and sweet grape wines. In the nearest future the winery will plant its own vineyards for this purpose including the local sorts of "madrasa" and "bayanshira".

"Abrau-Durso" Group of Companies plans to export wines produced at "ASK Sheki Sharab" first of all to Russia. Also, thanks to Azerbaijan's agreement on preferential trade with Turkey, opportunities are opening up for deliveries to this country," the company said in a statement.

"Abrau-Durso is one of the leading producers of sparkling and still wine in Russia. The products are supplied to 19 countries.
