Seven wheat breeding centers will be created in Russia by 2023
Seven new infrastructure facilities - collective use centers (CUC) and laboratories that will be involved in accelerated breeding of wheat and other bread grains - will be created in Russia by 2023, said Elena Khlestkina, director of the Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources named after N.I. Vavilov.
"In 2021, a laboratory for genetic editing and genomic breeding of bread grains has already been established at the institute. By 2023 six more facilities will be opened on this base and organizations - co-participants of the project "Bread of Russia", including CCC SpeedBreed, plant phenomics laboratory, laboratory of quantitative genetics and genomic breeding, CCC to produce dihaploid lines," - she said TASS.
According to her, all centers will solve different tasks, complementing each other in the complex development of new breeding programs.
