The average tax free check for foreigners' purchases in Russia increased sharply in 2021, amounting to 260 thousand rubles in just six months, while in full 2020 - 100 thousand rubles. Thus, the amount of check has jumped by more than 2.5 times, wrote the "Izvestia" with reference to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Thus, according to the ministry, in the first six months of 2021, tax free shopping turnover was nearly 7 billion rubles, which is 600 million rubles more than the same period last year.

Most often, since the start of the program in 2018, tax free purchases made by tourists from China (70%), Ukraine (2.6%), USA (1.9%),Israel (1.8%), Vietnam (1.7%), Azerbaijan (1.6%), Uzbekistan and Qatar (1.3% each), Germany, UAE and Thailand (1%).

Tax free is a 20% VAT refund system that applies to purchases made by tourists from countries outside the Eurasian Union. Now 16 Russian regions are participating in the tax free project. According to the department, for 2018-2020 years of the pilot project, the amount of purchases by foreign tourists amounted to about 38 billion rubles, and the amount of checks presented to tax free operators for VAT reimbursement exceeded 20 billion rubles.

Realization of goods with the service tax free is possible in more than 1.1 thousand Russian stores 205 retail trade organizations. The total number of buyers includes citizens of more than 200 foreign countries.
