"Kamaz intends to deliver water buses to Moscow this year

"Kamaz" plans to supply Moscow with a pilot batch of water buses by the end of 2022, the company's press service said.

Earlier, the Russian capital and Kamaz signed an agreement on the creation of samples of hydrogen passenger transport. After testing this year, the hydrogen bus is planned to be transferred to the capital for testing. This will tentatively happen in the fourth quarter.

"There is no hurry. We need to test the technology. Of course, we will first do it ourselves - fully test the technology, and only then we will hand it over for pilot operation to Mosgortrans," said the company's CEO Sergei Kogogin.

As part of the creation of hydrogen technology company expects to work in two directions: for Russia Kamaz will produce passenger vehicles, and for Europe - delivery trucks.

However, against the background of pandemic restrictions, face-to-face negotiations with potential European customers are now difficult, Kogogin admitted.

"We held several technical days with foreign manufacturers and identified several stop-factors. Firstly, it is the actual price per kilogram of hydrogen, secondly, the impact on the economics of the vehicle of its transportation, and thirdly, the safety, in the area of which there is no regulatory framework in Russia yet," he continued.

The head of the company added that the road map of the working group, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, reflects the problem of regulatory framework, and within two or three years, he believes, it will be solved.

Kamaz engineers began to develop hydrogen-powered vehicles early last year. The first results of the work were presented in September at the Comtrans-2021 exhibition in Moscow. At that time Kamaz presented its first hydrogen bus KAMAZ-6290. Among the advantages of the waterbus are its environmental friendliness and the lack of a diesel heater to heat the interior.

In contrast to the electric bus, which has a cruising range of 70 kilometers after a full charge of its batteries, the waterbus can go 250 kilometers. This makes it suitable even for intercity transport.

Also at this exhibition, the auto giant, together with the company GreenGT, demonstrated a 44-ton truck prototype with a hydrogen fuel cell system with a capacity of 170 kW with two 85 kW batteries.
