27

The opening of a series of outreach events in the field of nuclear science and technology "Nuclear&Science Days in Hanoi" was held at the Atomic Energy Information Center in Hanoi (ICONE), established by Rosatom in 2012.

The events were organized by Rosatom and ICONE with the assistance of Vietnamese partners - the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam, the Vietnamese Atomic Energy Agency (VAEA) and Hanoi Polytechnic University.

The opening ceremony was attended by Rosatom representative in Vietnam Andrei Stankevich, VAEA Deputy Director General Nguyen Chi Chu Trung, ICONE Director Ha Manh Chu, representatives of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and other government agencies and companies involved in the implementation of the Vietnamese national nuclear program.

Andrei Stankevich, the representative of the State Corporation "Rosatom" in Vietnam, emphasized the high importance of scientific-popular and educational events for students, schoolchildren and local people for the new industry being created in Vietnam. "Informing and educating the public about the benefits of nuclear power is the main task we face. Rosatom pays special attention to educating the younger generation, on whom the successful and safe future of the country's nuclear power industry depends," he said.

The "Future of Vietnam with Nuclear Power" children's drawing competition was the first event in the celebrations. Representatives of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom presented a children's book on nuclear energy in Vietnamese, Nuclear ABC. The guests and students of the event took part in a series of scientific and entertaining activities on nuclear topics, such as "Nuclear Quiz", "Nuclear Power Station in the Palm of the Hand" and other scientific and educational events.

The Nuclear Science Days will last in Hanoi until 20 May. Today, Thursday, May 19, there is an educational seminar for mass media on the topic "What every journalist should know about nuclear energy", and on May 20, the Hanoi Polytechnic University will host a popular science lecture by a Russian expert on the basics of nuclear energy. In addition, on May 20, the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Hanoi will host an award ceremony for Vietnamese schoolchildren who won the physics Olympiad organized by the Corporate Academy Rosatom. All winners will have an opportunity to enter one of the Russian nuclear universities.
