Students of St. Petersburg State University won the World Programming Championships

The team of Saint-Petersburg State University became the winner of the student world championship on programming ASM ICPC. The final stage of the tournament was held on Phuket Island in Thailand.

The second place in the championship was taken by Shanghai Transport University, the third place was taken by Harvard University.

Apart from St. Petersburg State University, four other Russian universities were in the top ten at the end of the tournament - Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (fourth place), St. Petersburg ITMO University (seventh place), Ural Federal University (eighth place) and Nizhny Novgorod State University (tenth place).

The ICPC ASM Championship has been held since 1977. The event is sponsored by IBM. Dozens of teams from all over the world participate in the competition. The second year in a row the tournament is won by Russian students. In 2015, the winners of the championship were students of ITMO University in St. Petersburg.
