The Kaliningrad company "Avtotor" plans to fully switch to the production of electric vehicles from 2024. Already next year, the company intends to produce 200 electric cars, said the founder of the company Vladimir Shcherbakov.

From May 1 to May 22, the Avtotor team went on corporate leave with pay. At this time, the units responsible for supporting the life support of the plant's infrastructure continued to work in normal mode.

"We see a way out of today's situation to create production of electric vehicles here, this year, at most next year," Shcherbakov said in an interview "Cascade TV".

He noted that representatives of Avtotor had been discussing with the government the abandonment of internal combustion engines for three years.

Electric vehicles will be equipped with Russian-built batteries. The domestic company "Renera" will be engaged in the production of batteries. This will be one of the first stages of full localization of production in Russia. Avtotor plans to complete this process no later than 2030. By that time, the company expects to launch several new plants for the production of electric motors, plastic products and upholstery.
