Technonicol company started to produce polymer fiber from plastic bottles

The manufacturer of building materials Technonicol bought the Vladimir plant "RB Group", which produces PET fiber. The deal allowed the company to enter a new market of polyester fibers from 100% recycled secondary raw materials. The main raw material for production is PET–flex, which is made from recycled plastic bottles, the press service of Technonicol reported.

The capacity of the plant is up to 30 thousand tons of finished products per year.

A new asset in Technonicol produces artificial PET fibers. There are two types of fibers in the company's product portfolio. In the first case, the fiber is used for road construction, laying pipelines and for drainage systems. The second fiber is used as a filler for consumer goods.

According to the company's experts, the consumption of PET-flex in Russia is high, the market is estimated at 200-220 thousand tons of secondary raw materials per year. However, a large proportion of PET flex in the country is imported. Due to the low volumes of collection and processing of secondary raw materials, the cost of PET flex in Russia is higher than abroad. For comparison, in Europe, on average 75% of garbage is sent for recycling, while in Russia this figure, depending on the fractions, does not exceed 10%.

"By returning secondary raw materials to the technological cycle, we are contributing to the development of a green economy and reducing the burden on ecosystems. Russia has a great potential to become a world leader in the export of polymer fiber and PET flakes. However, in conditions when it is more profitable to buy recyclables abroad than to use domestic ones, the Russian polymer fiber market will be uncompetitive," said Sergey Kolesnikov, co–owner and managing partner of Technonicol.

He pointed out the importance of protecting the domestic market. "To do this, solve the issue of transparency of collection and processing, increase the volume of finished recyclables. Also restrict access to their own market for waste and products from them for other countries. For example, on the same fiber. Many countries import it to us. This undermines domestic processing capacities," Kolesnikov said.

Now the integration of the plant into the company's structure is being completed, the geography of purchases and sales is expanding. In the near future, the main focus in the development of the enterprise will be on increasing productivity in order to achieve Technonicol indicators. By the end of 2021, the average labor productivity in the company amounted to 23.4 million rubles per person.
