Russian scientists have invented a way to create a new generation of optoelectronic chips

39

Scientists from the universities of the consortium of the NTI Competence Center "Photonics" have invented a unique method for the formation of optical nanoantennas. The method is based on a new source of optical radiation with electrical control, which will greatly speed up the transmission of information inside the chips and increase the performance of electronics and computers.

"The integration of photonic and electronic elements into new–generation optoelectronic microchips with internal optical lines can help increase computing performance by increasing the speed of information flows inside the chip," said Denis Lebedev, senior researcher at the Laboratory of Renewable Energy Sources at Alferov University.

The research was carried out by physicists from the St. Petersburg National Research Academic University named after J.I. Alferov of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPbAU), St. Petersburg State University (SPbU), ITMO National Research University, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) - all these universities are part of the consortium of the NTI Competence Center "Photonics".
