The construction of a second terminal is planned at Sochi Airport, the Ministry of Economy of the Krasnodar Territory reported.

"There is a huge load on Sochi now, now it is the gateway for the entire south, international transit. New flights that are opening in the resort city also attract passengers," said the head of the ministry Alexey Yurtaev.

He added that in the future it is planned to implement a fairly large investment project for the construction of the second terminal.

According to local authorities, in 2021, passenger traffic to Kuban airports amounted to about 20 million passengers, and the number of air passengers served in the region in January-May decreased by almost 30%. At the same time, the region does not expect a major decrease in passenger traffic by the end of the year.

Rosaviatsia has been extending the ban on flights to 11 airports in the south and central part of Russia since spring. For the last time until August 5.
