Russian farmers have collected about 20.7 thousand tons of melons, the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia reported.

The annual volume of production varies from 1.5 to 1.9 million tons, of which 35% falls on the organized sector, 65% - on households. On average, over the past 5 years, the melon harvest in the org sector is 670 thousand tons. This year, according to the forecast of the Ministry of Agriculture, it will not be lower than the average annual values.

"The improvement of farmers' approaches to cultivation technologies contributes to obtaining stable gross fees. The main types of crops grown in our country include watermelon, melon and pumpkin. The traditional leading regions are the Astrakhan Region, which accounts for almost half of the total commodity production (48%), Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, Volgograd, Orenburg, Saratov, Rostov, Voronezh regions, as well as the Chechen Republic, the Republics of Dagestan and Crimea," the agency noted.
