Moscow scientists have developed a device for the orientation of spacecraft in space

44

The latest equipment for the orientation of spacecraft appeared in Russia. About the builder of the local vertical, writes Regnum, told the press service of the Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography. The department reported that the device is lighter than existing analogues, consumes less energy in operation and at the same time is highly accurate, quickly creating circular panoramas.

Unlike most modern devices with opto-mechanical scanning, the novelty uses a special lens with increased efficiency and accuracy. According to the dean of the Faculty of Optical Instrumentation of MIIGAiK, Professor Irina Torshina, the rejection of mechanics and the transition to multi–element receivers is an important task that she solves together with her colleagues.

The new device has an original lens built in for a wide view of the space. Now experts are developing a mini-version of the builder weighing about one kilogram.

The publication notes that it is possible to use any spacecraft only if there is a so-called spatial orientation system. A special onboard device becomes one of the key elements of the system – it focuses on the center of the object around which the ship rotates in space.
