Norilsk Nickel increased production
MMC Norilsk Nickel by Vladimir Potanin increased nickel production by 26% to 99,951 tons in the first half of the year, it follows from the company's message. The production of platinum group metals also increased in January-July: palladium – by 8% to 1.4 million ounces, platinum – by 1% to 321,000 ounces.
The increase in production for the first six months of 2022 is associated with a lower base for the same period in 2021, when the Oktyabrsky and Taimyrsky mines were temporarily suspended due to accidents, and the Norilsk concentrator was not working, the company recalls.
At the end of February 2021, the Company had to suspend work at the Oktyabrsky and Taimyrsky mines due to partial flooding by groundwater. On February 22, work was suspended due to the collapse of the gallery in one of the workshops of the Norilsk concentrator, the work of the technological chain for processing interspersed ore with a capacity of about 5.2 million tons of ore per year was suspended. Due to accidents at the mines, Norilsk Nickel lowered its forecast for nickel production in 2021 by 35,000 tons, copper - by 65,000 tons, platinum group metals – by 22 tons.
