The Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) is discussing the possibility of accepting cards of the Russian payment system "Mir" in the country, CBA Director General Farid Osmanov said.

"This issue is being discussed taking into account political and economic issues with the participation of relevant state structures, as well as within the framework of the intergovernmental Azerbaijani-Russian commission (on economic cooperation)," Osmanov said at a press conference (quoted by TASS).

According to him, the final decision on this issue has not yet been made.

Earlier, financial institutions in Nigeria also discussed with Russian partners the possibility of using Mir payment system cards in the country. Today, payment for goods or services, withdrawal of money from the Mir card is available at ATMs in Turkey, Vietnam, Armenia, South Korea, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
