Siluanov: in 2022, the budget deficit may exceed the expected 0.9% of GDP

The budget deficit in 2022 is expected to reach 0.9%. This opinion was expressed by the Minister of Finance of Russia Anton Siluanov in an interview for the TV channel "Russia 1".

According to the head of the Ministry of Finance, the excess of the expected indicators is due to "new tasks that arise this year."

"The figure is likely to grow," the minister said.He added that "despite this, all social obligations for 2023-2025 will be fulfilled," Siluanov assured.

Recall that the current law on the federal budget assumes a treasury deficit of 1.25 trillion rubles (2.4% of GDP) in 2022 and 1.41 trillion (1.1% of GDP) in 2023. The excess of expenses over income was also planned for 2021: it was supposed to amount to 2.75 trillion rubles, or 2.4% of GDP.

Earlier, the Ministry of Finance presented preliminary projections, from which it followed that in 2023 the deficit of the federal treasury will remain, but it will be almost seven times less than expected in the budget law. It will amount to 207.9 billion rubles.
