State Corporation Rosatom has announced the conclusion of a trilateral agreement with VEB.RF and Rostec for construction of 25 new waste-to-energy plants in Russia. It is expected that all plants will have a high degree of localization of technologies and solutions. The budget of the entire project will amount to 600 billion rubles. The project operator will be a subsidiary of the state corporation Rostec represented by RT-Invest.

Sergei Chemezov, General Director of Rostec, spoke about the reform of the garbage industry in Russia, which aims to introduce sorting of waste throughout the country and subsequent reduction of the percentage of waste disposal in favor of waste-to-energy solutions. The joint project of state corporations will reduce more than 105 existing and planned landfills.

Equipment with a high degree of localization will be supplied by Rosatom. In addition, the corporation will provide partial engineering and involvement of foreign partners in this area of energy waste disposal, as well as subsequent maintenance and technical support. Alexei Likhachev, General Director of Rosatom, noted the high readiness of the corporation due to already functioning production of the alike equipment for existing plants in Russia and foreign projects.

The project will be financed by VEB.RF. As its Chairman Igor Shuvalov emphasized, this is the first and important project for the country to create a full-fledged waste management system in Russia. It is planned to involve external partners and investors in the project.

One of the effects of investment in the Russian industry in the course of the joint initiative of state corporations will be the emergence of ready-made waste-to-energy solutions in Russia and their potential export to countries planning or already implementing similar projects.
