According to Kirill Sypalo, General Director of TsAGI (Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute), today the company knows a probable list of parameters, as well as the appearance of a new generation supersonic aircraft engine.
One of the most important requirements is to ensure relatively low specific fuel consumption of the engine as well as the required thrust at supersonic cruising speed.
The engine type, power plant characteristics, and their coordinated interaction to minimize thrust loss have a huge impact on the environmental and fuel and economic performance of a supersonic civil aircraft.
Critical parameters in this situation are technologies to reduce noise of the exhaust jet, fan and glider during take-off and landing.
Based on the calculations of The National Research Center Zhukovsky Institute and TsAGI the prototype of supersonic civil aircraft will be build by Russian engineers before 2023.
Today the main challenge for aviation is the invention of a new generation of supersonic civil aircraft, and Russia has a high chance to become a leader in this promising and high-tech area.
Compared to subsonic aviation, flying at supersonic cruising speed has significant advantages, increasing the area of possible one-day trips from 3.5 to 7.5 thousand kilometers.
