The next stage of development of the oxygen-methane rocket engine RD-0177 has been completed, the mass media reported quoting Roscosmos. The engine was developed at the Voronezh Rocket Engine Center.

During tests of the engine the processes of mixture formation in a model gas generator with different nozzle heads were studied in order to use repeatedly this gas generator in the engine itself in the future.

According to Viktor Gorokhov, chief designer of the Design Bureau for Chemavtomatika (KBKHA), the tests made it possible to determine which design of the gas generator would be the most optimal for the engine. In the future, according to him, testing of the combustion chamber will take place. After that, the stage of creating and assembling of the prototype of the engine will begin.

Executive Director Sergey Kovalev noted that in the future the company intends to actively work in the field of creating engines for reusable launch vehicles for domestic projects.
