Hong Kong will buy animal feed from Russia

Rosselkhoznadzor has agreed with its counterparts from Hong Kong on a veterinary certificate for pet food additives and finished feed that have undergone heat treatment, which will be delivered to Hong Kong in the future.

According to the relevant Russian authority, this document is required for the export of feed that contains ingredients of animal origin. Where they do not contain such ingredients, the feed must have an accompanying veterinary certificate for fodder grain and other plant products for livestock production.

Last year, more than 140,000 tons of domestically produced animal feed were exported, with the total amount exceeding $180 million. Two-thirds of the volume of supplies was cat and dog food.

According to the Federal Customs Service of the country, the products were delivered to 33 countries, but the main customers (almost 80%) were neighboring Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine. Hong Kong bought 82 thousand tons of feed worth 184 million dollars last year from the USA (43%), Thailand (9.8%) and Canada (8.5%). Another 190,000 tonnes worth more than USD 0.5 billion came from mainland China.

It is worth noting that Hong Kong is also a hub for re-exports not only to other countries in the region, but also to mainland China. Therefore, the opening of the Hong Kong market for feed from Russia could be a step towards opening the Chinese market as well.
