Russia delivered passenger cars to Egypt

Egypt received from the Russian Federation the first production passenger cars. The delivery took place under a contract with the African country's National Railways.

It should be noted that this is the first time Russia is exporting passenger cars for 1435 mm gauge to the far abroad. The total value of the contract exceeds a billion Euro.

By the end of the year the Russian Federation will supply to Egypt some more carriages, said the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov. He noted that the implementation of the project will be another important stage in the development of relations between the two countries and will have a significant impact on Russia's non-resource non-energy export.

The cars were handed over to the Egyptian side during the ceremony in the port of Alexandria.

As Kirill Lipa, General Director of Transmashholding, said, the first delivery was preceded by extensive preparation. Russia drafted the design documentation taking into account the peculiarities of the European railroad gauge. In addition two prototype cars were coordinated with the Egyptian company and then the certification campaign was carried out. He stressed that in spite of the pandemic, it was possible to establish international logistics.

According to him, the work under such contracts has a significant multiplier potential and gives an opportunity to improve the production cooperation in Russia and in the international market.

As a reminder, the contract was concluded in autumn 2018. It envisages the export of 1.3 thousand cars, which are manufactured at Tver Carriage Works and the Hungarian enterprise.
