Russian economy minister predicts 3% GDP growth in the country by 2022

The size of Russia's GDP will recover to 2019 levels by the fourth quarter of next year, and growth in 2022 could be about 3%.

The relevant statement was made by the head of the country's Ministry of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov during a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on the situation in the labor market.

According to Reshetnikov, the nationwide plan for economic recovery provides that by the fourth quarter of 2021, the country will return to the average annual GDP of the previous year.

"Thus we fulfill the task on, let us say, the recovery of the economy," - said the head of the ministry and added that since 2022, Russia will return to the trajectory of sustainable economic growth. The Minister mentioned that this means about 3% GDP growth in the country. He also did not rule out likely fluctuations.

Such a forecast, he said, is based on the further implementation of the package, which is included in the overall national plan.

Earlier, the International Monetary Fund downgraded to 5% the forecast for the current year of economic recovery around the world after the pandemic. According to calculations of the Fund experts, the most negative situation will be in the U.S. and Europe, where the economy could lose up to 12% of GDP.

It is worth noting that the U.S. Congress has already said that the recovery may take 10 years. The highest losses in Europe will be incurred by Italy, Spain and France, according to the media.
