Sunflower oil exports from Russia to India are breaking records

Sunflower oil supplies from Russia to India increased 7.5 times in the first half of the year alone.

According to Alexander Rybas, Russia's trade representative in India, such growth is due to the global panic on the eve of the second pandemic wave and the resulting decrease in overall business activity. At the same time, the product remains a popular ingredient for quick homemade meals.

Apart from sunflower oil exports to India, domestic supplies of soybean oil, nitrogen fertilizers, measuring devices, pipes and components for their manufacture have also increased.

At the same time, as Rybas noted, the Indian market is interested in buying from Russia agricultural machinery and equipment for the processing and storage of grain. As India is actively supporting farmers who produce ecologically clean products, this country is also interested in purchasing wastewater treatment systems and solid waste processing systems.

In addition there is an industrialization program and therefore India is interested in purchase or construction of various purpose ships, oil, gas processing and geological equipment and security equipment such as alarm and CCTV systems for ports, roads and airports.

At the same time, Russia's imports of rice, peanuts and cellular phones from India increased, while India began to buy less oil, coking coal and diamonds from Russia.

Overall trade between the countries, according to the Russian Customs Service, has now declined 21% to $4 billion compared to the previous year. Exports are down 29 percent to $2.3 billion, and imports are down 6 percent to $1.7 billion.
